C 144 Aircraft - The HC-144A has a length of 21.4m, a wing span of 25.8m and a height of 7.9m. The cabin width and height of the aircraft are 2.47m and 1.9m respectively. The maximum take-off weight of the aircraft is 16,501kg.
It can carry up to 40 passengers. Responding to President Kennedy's order to develop an all-jet military transport troop and cargo carrier, Lockheed produced the StarLifter on time and under budget using the exclusive designs of its Marietta-based engineers.
C 144 Aircraft
From 1965 to 2006, it served as the mainstay of the U.S. military airlift, participating in every operation from Vietnam to Iraqi Freedom. The aircraft's speed proved invaluable during Vietnam by cutting roundtrip flight time between California and Saigon from 95 hours to 34, while its 93-foot cargo bay made it easy to offload almost 70,000 pounds of freight per hour.
One Plane Many Missions
From the beginning, the C-130 has featured a large, unobstructed, fully-pressurized cargo hold that can be rapidly reconfigured for the carriage of troops, stretchers, passengers or airdrops of troops and/or equipment into battle zones. The C-130's high-wing design places the cargo floor at truck-bed height above the ground.
The C-130 also features an integral "roll-on/roll-off" rear-loading ramp. Coupled with its tremendous lift capacity, long range, and austere landing field capabilities, it is a true tactical airlifter. The Ocean Sentry can fly at a maximum altitude of 25,000ft.
It can climb at a rate of 1,948ft/min. The aircraft has a maximum cruise speed of 236kt and a range of 2,040 nautical miles. The high endurance of HC-144C allows it to stay airborne for over ten hours.
HC-144A Ocean Sentry is a new maritime patrol aircraft being manufactured by EADS North America for the US Coast Guard (USCG). It replaces the aging fleet of HU-25 Guardian Falcon jets that are in service with the USCG.

The HC-144A achieved initial operational capability (IOC) in 2009. The Ocean Sentry fleet is currently based at Coast Guard Air Stations in Mobile, Cape Cod and Miami. The HC-144A demonstrated superior functionality during the 2010 Haiti earthquake and the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.
The glass cockpit accommodates two crew including a pilot and co-pilot. The night-vision-goggle compatible cockpit is fitted with state-of-the-art digital avionics suite integrating twin head-up displays, five multifunctional displays, engine display system, automatic flight control system and dual flight management system.
With the Super Hercules worldwide fleet logging more than one million hours of flying combat, humanitarian, special operations, aerial refueling, firefighting, and search and rescue missions around the world, the C-130J stands ready for its next mission and for whatever the future holds.

holds. The C-130 airframe was immediately recognized for its incredible versatility, prompting it to be quickly adapted for use in supporting special mission requirements. The first of some 70 different variants - a ski-equipped version for resupplying Distant Early Warning radar sites - was initially tested in 1957. An electronic reconnaissance version came soon after.
Read more about the many missions of Hercules. The US Coast Guard placed a $130m contract with Integrated Coast Guard Systems (ICGS) in June 2003 to design and deliver two medium-range surveillance aircraft, based on EADS CASA CN-235 aircraft.
The acquisition forms part of the Integrated Deepwater System (IDS) modernization program. In August 2010, EADS North America was awarded a $117m contract to deliver three HC-144A aircraft. The contract also includes options for the delivery of up to six more aircraft over a period of four years.
EADS North America delivered the 14th HC-144A aircraft to the USCG in July 2012. The HC-144A is fitted with a retractable tricycle-type landing gear with tandem low-pressure tires. The landing gear ensures the aircraft can carry out operations in remote locations with poor take-off and landing facilities.
The Birth Of Hercules
The aircraft can be operated from short, soft and semi-prepared runways. The StarLifter aided smaller military engagements such as Granada and Panama by airdropping troops and moving heavy Army equipment to and from the battlefields. And a convoy of modified C-141Bs successfully supported larger missions in the Middle East like Operation Desert Shield, operating around the clock and landing in Saudi Arabia at an astonishing rate of one every seven minutes.

Equally impressive when transporting passengers, the StarLifter came to be known as the "Hanoi Taxi" in 1973 after repatriating nearly 600 American Prisoners of War held in North Vietnam. The planes also played important roles in rescuing American personnel and Vietnamese refugees during the 1975 exodus of Saigon, evacuating 78 wounded in the 1983 bombing of the U.S.
